tract\n This thesis focuses on the f
ield of 5G network security, specifi
cally in the area of programmable ne
tworks that use Kubernetes as a VNF
 controller. For these operating envi
ronments, there are currently no ava
 ilable solutions for efficient real-
 time monitoring and log aggregation
 that will enable network administrat
ors to evaluate performace and secur
 ity threats. While some general-purp
 ose industry-standard solutions offe
r a number of features, such as leve
 led logs, advanced text formatting,
 built-in visualizations and frontend
 s, their use introduces significant
 performance overheads and requires a
lot of customization effort in orde
r to be deployed in live networks.\n
In this thesis, a new metrics syste
m, developed in Golang, is introduce
d to alleviate the shortcomings of t
 he aforementioned solutions. It enab
 les efficient real-time monitoring a
nd evaluation of network services an
 d its \n parser-analyzer captures in
 formation related to network service
  performance and security and analyz
es it in order to provide valuable i
 nsights. Automation scripts and Ansi
 ble configurations were also develop
ed to facilitate and automate the mo
 nitoring and evaluation process, off
ering a more efficient and effective
  means of measuring the performance
of network services as well as the e
 ffectiveness of the security counter
measures deployed in them.\n The dev
eloped metrics system has been deplo
yed, tested and validated in the PRI
 NCIPALS research project. PRINCIPALS
strives to enhance active network s
 ervice management and security throu
gh the provision of security primiti
ves to counter diverse types of atta
cks. The metrics system  is an integ
ral  component \n of the PRINCIPALS
 framework, providing real-time bench
marking capabilities, as well as ser
ving as the main logging mechanism.\
