f97a237c4d070e30284a55fe8ab228\nThe
SPE Student Chapter of Technical Uni
versity of Crete organizes the upcom
ing talk of Mr.Rawdon J.H. Seager, T
echnical Director, Reservoir Enginee
ring Director-Global Quality Assuran
ce.\n The topic of the event is “Car
bon Capture and Storage and the SPE
CO2 Storage Resources Management Sys
tem (SRMS)”.\n This online event wil
l be held on Wednesday 6 March 2024
at 18:00 EET (UTC+2).\n \n You can p

7OG5ENM9c8\n \n Abstract\n After th
e lecture, members will understand t
he importance of carbon capture and
storage in the transition to a lower
carbon future and know how to evalu
ate quantities consistently using th
e SRMS. As part of the international
effort to combat global warming, si
gnificant attention is being given t
o ways to sequester (store for the l
ong-term) carbon dioxide, which is a
 major contributor to the greenhouse
effect. It is therefore critical th
at there is a universal means to rec
ord the storable quantities by recog
nizing the maturity of the projects
to be implemented and the confidence
that can be placed in the estimated
volumes to be sequestered. This tal
k will look at some of the ways in w
hich carbon dioxide can be stored an
d provide a review of the CO2 Storag
e Resources Management System (SRMS)
framework prepared by the Society o
f Petroleum Engineers to classify an
d categorize the storable quantities
.\n The talk will cover:\n \n \nAn o
verview of carbon capture, utilizati
on and storage, including the role o
f greenhouse gasses in global warmin
g\n \nDiscussion of typical modes of
storage of carbon dioxide in saline
aquifers and depleted oil and gas f
ields\n \nReview of the CO2 Storage
Resources Management System (SRMS),
including principles and key definit
ions\n \nDiscussion of economics and
 evaluation methods\n \nA hypothetic
al example\n \n \n Biography\n Rawdo
n Seager is a reservoir engineer wit
h over 50 years’ experience in the i
nternational oil and gas arena with
Shell, Huffco and, since 1985, Gaffn
ey, Cline & Associates, where he
is Chief Reservoir Engineer and Glo
bal Director of Quality Assurance. H
e is currently involved in CCS studi
es and application of the SRMS.\n He
has a BSc in Physics from Bristol U
niversity and an MSc in Petroleum En
gineering from Imperial College, Lon
don. Rawdon is past Chairman of the
SPE Oil and Gas Reserves Committee a
nd past member of the Board and curr
ent Chair of the Reserves Definition
s Committee of the SPEE.\n \n At the
end of the event, all the participa
nts will receive a certificate of at
tendance. This is an event you won't
want to miss! Make sure to mark you
r calendar and join us.\n
