Αρχικά, στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο, μέσω μι ας εκτενούς βιβλιογραφικής αναφοράς, γίνεται λόγος για την ευρύτερη κατα νόηση της έννοιας των σπάνιων γαιών. Αναλυτικότερα, εξετάζονται οι ορισμ οί της έννοιας αυτής καθώς και η ιστ ορική τους εξέλιξη, μέσα από τις προ σπάθειες αποσαφήνισης της. Επιπρόσθε τα, υλοποιείται μια ταξινόμηση των σ πάνιων γαιών, αναλύοντας τις εκάστοτ ε κατηγοριοποιήσεις τους όπως, λόγου χάρη, οι ελαφριές σπάνιες γαίες και οι βαριές σπάνιες γαίες. Παράλληλα αποτυπώνεται η γεωλογία των σπάνιων γαιών, καθώς επίσης και εφαρμογές το υς στην καθημερινή ζωή. Τέλος, στο 1 ο κεφάλαιο γίνεται εκτενής λόγος για τις χώρες παραγωγής των σπάνιων γαι ών, αφενός σε μια αποτύπωση σε παγκό σμιο επίπεδο κι αφετέρου στον ελλαδι κό χώρο. Συνακολούθως στο 2ο κεφάλαι ο, γίνεται αναφορά στις οικονομικές συσχετίσεις των σπάνιων γαιών. Πιο σ υγκεκριμένα η βιβλιογραφική επισκόπη ση, οδήγησε στην ανάλυση των σπάνιων γαιών ως οικονομικό υπερόπλο των σύ γχρονων επιχειρήσεων ανά τον κόσμο, και πως η χώρα της Κίνας, έχει αναδε ιχθεί σε παγκόσμια υπερδύναμη στην ε κμετάλλευση συγκεκριμένων κοιτασμάτω ν, με μια διεθνή αναγνωσιμότητα, ενώ παράλληλα αναφέρεται κι η βιομηχανι κή αγορά των σπάνιων γαιών στις οικο νομικά ανεπτυγμένες χώρες της σημερι νής εποχής. Επιπροσθέτως, υλοποιείτα ι η σύζευξη των εννοιών των σπάνιων γαιών και των ανανεώσιμων πηγών ενέρ γειας. Αναλυτικότερα, αρχικά πραγματ οποιείται μια πρώτη εισαγωγική προσέ γγιση για το θέμα αυτό, ενώ στη συνέ χεια γίνεται αναφορά στην αξιοποίηση των σπάνιων γαιών στις ανανεώσιμες πηγές ενέργειας. Επιπλέον, οροθετούν ται οι περιβαλλοντικοί κίνδυνοι κι ο ι τεχνολογίες ανακύκλωσης. Εν κατακλ είδι, πραγματοποιείται σύγκριση των τεχνολογιών των ανανεώσιμων πηγών εν έργειας που απαιτούν σπάνιες γαίες, με αναφορές σε πλεονεκτήματα, μειονε κτήματα και στοιχεία κόστους. Στη συ νέχεια, στο 4ο κεφάλαιο, υλοποιείται η ανάλυση της αξιολόγησης και εκμετ άλλευσης των σπάνιων γαιών. Πιο συγκ εκριμένα, γίνεται λόγος για τις πολι τικές και τους κανονισμούς γύρω από την εξόρυξη τους. Ακόμη, μέσα από τη ν παροχή πληροφοριών της βιβλιογραφι κής ανασκόπησης, αναφέρονται οι παρά γοντες αξιολόγησης, με αναλυτική προ σέγγιση των οικονομικών και περιβαλλ οντικών παραγόντων. Τέλος, γίνεται μ ια σύνοψη της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας, με την καταγραφή των συμπε ρασμάτων, που προέκυψαν από τη μελέτ η και έρευνα του συγκεκριμένου θέματ ος, ενώ παράλληλα παρέχεται και ο πρ οσανατολισμός και κατευθύνσεις για μ ελλοντική έρευνα και περαιτέρω ανάλυ ση σε συγκεκριμένες πτυχές του θέματ ος αυτού.\n Abstract\n This thesis d eals with a study regarding the envi ronmental impacts related to the min ing of rare earth metals, with refer ence to the technologies of renewabl e energy sources and the costs invol ved. Initially, in the first chapter , through an extensive bibliographic reference, the broader understandin g of the concept of rare earths is d iscussed. In more detail, the defini tions of this concept are examined o n the one hand, and their historical evolution, through the efforts to c larify the concept. In addition, a c lassification of rare earths is impl emented, analyzing their respective categorizations, such as, for exampl e, light rare earths and heavy rare earths. At the same time, the geolog y of rare earths is captured, as wel l as their applications in everyday life. Finally, in the 1st chapter, t here is an extensive discussion abou t the countries producing rare earth s, on the one hand, in a global pers pective and on the other in the Gree k area. Subsequently, in the 2nd cha pter, reference is made to the econo mic correlations of rare earths. Mor e specifically, the bibliographic re view led to the analysis of rare ear ths as an economic superweapon of mo dern businesses around the world, an d how the country of China has emerg ed as a global superpower in the exp loitation of specific deposits, with an international recognition, while at the same time the industrial rar e earth market in today's economical ly developed countries. In addition, the coexistence of the concepts of rare earths and renewable energy sou rces is realized. In more detail, in itially a first introductory approac h to this subject is carried out, wh ile then reference is made to the ut ilization of rare earths in renewabl e sources. In addition, environmenta l risks and recycling technologies a re defined. In conclusion, a compari son of renewable energy technologies requiring rare earths is made, with references to advantages, disadvant ages and cost figures. Then, in the 4th chapter, the analysis of the eva luation and exploitation of rare ear ths is carried out. More specificall y, there is talk of the policies and regulations surrounding their minin g. Furthermore, through the provisio n of information from the bibliograp hic review, the evaluation factors a re mentioned, with an analytical app roach to economic and environmental factors.
