 n the medical device industry change
  is inevitable. Innovative healthcar
 e companies are at the constant fore
 front of new technological advanceme
 nts, regulations and standards revis
 ion. New requirements are enforced a
 nd every document, process, and prod
 uct is subject to change.  Product m
 odifications can be initiated by man
 ufacturers before the product is app
 roved and made available to the publ
 ic (pre-market product changes) as w
 ell as after the device has been app
 roved and is distributed into the ma
 rketplace (post-market product chang
 es). Such modifications are more cha
 llenging because products are being 
 actively used in Healthcare Institut
 ions so any change of the medical de
 vice or a medical device part will r
 equire correction resulting in uncer
 tainty and operational inefficiencie
 s in the interim period. The scope o
 f this thesis is to explore how heal
 thcare institutions adapt to medical
  device changes initiated by manufac
 turers due to safety alerts, recalls
 , software updates or product modifi
 cations. It seeks to understand the 
 existing processes of handling medic
 al device changes, the challenges an
 d effectiveness of change management
  practices within healthcare institu
 tions. Special focus will be given o
 n how healthcare institutions are ad
 apting to the changes triggered by s
 afety alerts and recalls which is ve
 ry critical in maintaining patient a
 nd user safety. Through interviews w
 ith healthcare institutions stakehol
 ders, this thesis uncovers the compl
 exities involved in adapting to thes
 e changes. Also, based on the result
 s, this thesis explores potential im
 provements and/or solutions to the o
 verall medical device adaptation man
 agement process of healthcare instit
 utions ensuring better preparedness 
 and adaptability while maintaining b
 oth operational continuity and patie
 nt and user safety during critical m
 edical device changes.\n
