 λη τροφίμων αποτελεί ένα από τα σημα
 ντικότερα κοινωνικοοικονομικά και πε
 ριβαλλοντικά προβλήματα της σύγχρονη
 ς εποχής, με επιπτώσεις που διαχέοντ
 αι σε ολόκληρο το φάσμα της βιώσιμης
  ανάπτυξης. Η παρούσα εργασία διερευ
 νά το φαινόμενο της σπατάλης τροφίμω
 ν σε παγκόσμιο και ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο
 , αναλύοντας τα αίτια, τις επιπτώσει
 ς και τις πολιτικές περιορισμού του,
  με έμφαση στην ανάγκη για βιώσιμα α
 γροδιατροφικά συστήματα.\n Στο πρώτο
  μέρος παρουσιάζεται το θεωρητικό πλ
 αίσιο, όπου ορίζεται η έννοια της σπ
 ατάλης τροφίμων, αναλύονται τα βασικ
 ά αίτια εμφάνισής της και συσχετίζετ
 αι με την έννοια της βιώσιμης ανάπτυ
 ξης και τους Στόχους του ΟΗΕ (SDG 12
 .3). Εξετάζονται διεξοδικά οι περιβα
 λλοντικές επιπτώσεις — το ανθρακικό,
  υδατικό και ενεργειακό αποτύπωμα — 
 καθώς και οι μεθοδολογίες αποτίμησης
 , όπως η Ανάλυση Κύκλου Ζωής (LCA) κ
 αι το αποτύπωμα νερού (Water Footpri
 nt).\n Το τρίτο κεφάλαιο επικεντρώνε
 ται στις οικονομικές συνέπειες, αναδ
 εικνύοντας το υψηλό κόστος παραγωγής
 , μεταφοράς και διάθεσης των απορριπ
 τόμενων τροφίμων, αλλά και τη σύνδεσ
 η της σπατάλης με την απώλεια ΑΕΠ κα
 ι παραγωγικών πόρων. Παράλληλα, αναλ
 ύονται οι κοινωνικές και ηθικές διασ
 τάσεις του φαινομένου, όπως η ανισότ
 ητα πρόσβασης σε τρόφιμα και η ανάγκ
 η διαμόρφωσης υπεύθυνης καταναλωτική
 ς συμπεριφοράς.\n Στα επόμενα κεφάλα
 ια παρουσιάζονται οι τεχνολογίες και
  πρακτικές περιορισμού της σπατάλης,
  οι αρχές της κυκλικής οικονομίας κα
 ι οι διεθνείς πρωτοβουλίες αντιμετώπ
 ισης, όπως οι στρατηγικές της Ευρωπα
 ϊκής Ένωσης, του FAO και της UNEP. Τ
 έλος, μέσα από στατιστική ανάλυση αν
 αδεικνύονται οι τάσεις και τα αποτελ
 έσματα σε διαφορετικά κοινωνικοοικον
 ομικά περιβάλλοντα, προσφέροντας μια
  ολοκληρωμένη εικόνα του φαινομένου.
 \n Η εργασία καταλήγει στο συμπέρασμ
 α ότι η αποτελεσματική μείωση της σπ
 ατάλης τροφίμων προϋποθέτει συνδυασμ
 ό πολιτικών, τεχνολογικής καινοτομία
 ς και κοινωνικής ευαισθητοποίησης, μ
 ε στόχο τη διαμόρφωση ενός δίκαιου, 
 αποδοτικού και περιβαλλοντικά βιώσιμ
 ου συστήματος διατροφής.\n Abstract:
 \n Food waste constitutes one of the
  most significant socioeconomic and 
 environmental challenges of the mode
 rn era, with impacts that extend acr
 oss the entire spectrum of sustainab
 le development. This thesis investig
 ates the phenomenon of food waste at
  both the global and European levels
 , analysing its causes, impacts, and
  mitigation policies, with particula
 r emphasis on the need for sustainab
 le agri-food systems.\n The first se
 ction presents the theoretical frame
 work, defining the concept of food w
 aste, analysing its key causes, and 
 linking it to the notion of sustaina
 ble development and the United Natio
 ns Sustainable Development Goal 12.3
 . The environmental impacts — the ca
 rbon, water, and energy footprint — 
 are examined in detail, along with a
 ssessment methodologies such as Life
  Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the Wate
 r Footprint.\n The third chapter foc
 uses on the economic consequences, h
 ighlighting the high costs associate
 d with the production, transportatio
 n, and disposal of discarded food, a
 s well as the connection between foo
 d waste, GDP losses, and the wastage
  of productive resources. At the sam
 e time, the social and ethical dimen
 sions of the phenomenon are explored
 , such as inequality in food access 
 and the need to cultivate responsibl
 e consumer behaviour.\n The subseque
 nt chapters present technologies and
  practices for reducing food waste, 
 the principles of the circular econo
 my, and international initiatives fo
 r addressing the issue, such as the 
 strategies of the European Union, FA
 O, and UNEP. Finally, through statis
 tical analysis, emerging trends and 
 outcomes across different socioecono
 mic contexts are identified, offerin
 g a comprehensive picture of the phe
 nomenon.\n The thesis concludes that
  the effective reduction of food was
 te requires a combination of policy 
 interventions, technological innovat
 ion, and social awareness, with the 
 aim of shaping a fair, efficient, an
 d environmentally sustainable food s
 ystem.\n
