Award of Doctorate Honoris Causa to Dr. Asad MADNI (USA)
The Technical University of Crete had the honour to confer a Doctorate Honoris Causa to Dr. Asad M. Madni on Wednesday, September 12th 2012 in recognition of his outstanding achievements in science and society.
Honorary doctorate degrees constitute the highest academic honour and are conferred to distinguished Greek or foreign scientists, who have produced significant scientific work or have offered valuable services to society.
The nomination of Dr. Asad Madni for the award of an honorary doctorate degree for his outstanding achievements in the area of systems design and signal processing received a unanimous vote by the General Assembly of the Department of Production Engineering and Management of the Technical University of Crete.
TUC's Rector Yannis Phillis pronounced the laudatio for Dr. Asad Madni, mentioning, among other things, that:
"Science is based on curiosity, observation, logical deduction. It is also based on minimalism, asking the right questions, doubting, questioning authority, that is reassessing dominant opinions and theories, seeking change so that reality is understood as lucidly as possible. Truth, whatever truth might be, is continually approached according to physical reality and evidence; not personal ideology or dogma. It is this liberal spirit that has made science indispensable.
Dr Asad Madni is a man who embodies all these attributes. He is an engineer and scientist, a man who has solved important engineering problems using precisely these principles."
