44 faculty members of the Technical University of Crete among the Top Scientists Worldwide

The high-quality research output produced by the Technical University of Crete, as well as its international reputation, has once again been confirmed by the updated rankings in the bibliometric study by John P. A. Ioannidis (2026) of Stanford University, published on October 7, 2026. The ranking, titled “Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators” is published annually and assesses the performance of academics worldwide. A total of forty-four (44) members of the academic staff of the Technical University of Crete appear in the ranking lists.

The updated 2026 ranking of the world’s leading scientists is based on a number of indicators focusing on the impact of their published research during 2025, as well as the impact of their research throughout their careers. It evaluates these indicators for more than 8,000,000 scientists worldwide. The broader annual assessment conducted by the Stanford University team is based on the impact of published research, specifically the citations received by each scientist with at least five publications, according to the Scopus database.
