A significant distinction for the Technical University of Crete was achieved by Giannis Charalampopoulos, a student of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and a Taekwondo champion, who secured fifth place at the 2026 Hellenic University Taekwondo Championship, held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Olympic Facilities of Paiania in Attica.
The student competed in the Men’s +87 kg category, representing the Technical University of Crete, and was the institution’s sole participant in the championship.
The 2026 Hellenic University Taekwondo Championship was organized by the National Technical University of Athens in collaboration with the Directorate of Physical Education of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and the Hellenic Taekwondo Federation.
At the same time, he also participated and excelled in the 2026 Hellenic Taekwondo Cup, held for sports clubs at the same venue from May 3 to 5, 2026, where he won the bronze medal.
