The “European Researchers’ Night” of the Technical University of Crete was successfully held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the 1st Experimental Junior High School of Chania, attracting more than 850 visitors who took part in this major celebration of science and research.
The “European Researchers’ Night”, which takes place across Europe every year on the last Friday of September, succeeded in bringing research closer to society, as visitors of all ages transformed the courtyard of the 1st Experimental Junior High School of Chania into a vibrant hub of communication, interaction, and entertainment.
Research laboratories from all five Schools of the Technical University of Crete, with the participation of faculty members, researchers, and students, presented their research work and cutting-edge scientific activities to the public. These included robotics, human-robot interaction, artificial intelligence, intelligent computing systems, satellite technologies, digital mapping, the development of interactive 3D games, digital shadow play (Karagiozis), architecture, renewable and sustainable energy sources, microelectronics and advanced manufacturing technologies, climate change, environmental protection, and the sustainable use of natural resources.
For one evening, research “stepped out” of universities and laboratories and met society, giving children, young people, families, educators, and visitors of all ages the opportunity to discover firsthand how scientific questions emerge and how research contributes to understanding and improving the world around us.
The “European Researchers’ Night” was organized by the Technical University of Crete as part of the European project “SCIENCE FOR GROWTH – EMPOWERING MINDS (STEPS),” funded by the Horizon Europe – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme. The project partners are the Technical University of Crete, the University of Crete (Coordinator), and the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).
