The Technical University of Crete, as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting outreach, international cooperation, and the connection between education and innovation, participated in a collaborative initiative between students of the Akrotiri Model Vocational High School (EPAL) and the Swedish school Voxgym–Voxnadalens Gymnasium.
With the support of Assistant Professor Marianthi Liapi from the School of Architecture and Nektarios Moumoutzis, member of the Educational and Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the initiative was implemented through a multi-day educational program focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and intercultural exchange.
As part of the program, 29 students and 4 teachers from Voxgym–Voxnadalens Gymnasium visited Chania from May 4–8, 2026, and collaborated with 18 students from the Akrotiri Model Vocational High School and their teachers, Marina Skandalaki, Alina Lionoudaki, and Afroditi Terzi. Together, they participated in workshops and educational activities held at the facilities and laboratories of the Technical University of Crete.
During their visit, participants had the opportunity to explore modern technological and innovative approaches, while also becoming familiar with contemporary business models through hands-on learning experiences.
The following laboratories and research groups of the Technical University of Crete took part in the initiative:
- Transformable Intelligent Environments Laboratory (TUC TIE Lab)
- Laboratory of Distributed Multimedia Information Systems and Applications (Music/TUC)
- SenseLab Research Team
- Industrial and Digital Innovations Research Group (InDIGo)
- IEEE TUC Student Branch
- Formula Student Racing Team (FS TUC)
At the same time, students exchanged experiences, worked together on projects, and gained insight into local culture and the renowned hospitality of Crete.
The program concluded with a joint educational visit to the Archaeological Museum of Chania, while discussions are already underway regarding the organization of a new and expanded collaboration in the near future.
