International recognition/achievement for the spin-off Sense Space Informatics P.C. of Technical University of Crete, through securing funding from the EIC Pre-Accelerator

A significant achievement has been recorded for the Technical University of Crete, as its spin-off Sense Space Informatics P.C. was selected for funding under the highly competitive European Innovation Council (EIC) Pre- Accelerator program of the European Union, with the proposal “SandCASLE-Creating Adaptive Special Educational Environments”.

Under the coordination of Professor Panagiotis Pertsinevelos, Director of the Laboratory of Geodesy and Informatics at the School of Mineral Resources Engineering, Sense Space Informatics is one of the first two spin-offs established by the Technical University of Crete, with the support of the SenseLab research team.

This achievement represents a significant milestone, as the spin-off was selects among 1.083 proposals from across Europe, with only 70 companies ultimately receiving funding. EIC is considered as the European Union’s most ambitious funding instrument for innovation.

The SandCASLE project aims to create interactive educational environments that enhance spatial intelligence by leveraging advanced technologies to promote inclusive and accessible education while addressing personalized learning needs.

Sense Space Informatics designs and develops innovative technological products in the fields of Geoinformatics, satellite navigation systems as well as Earth monitoring and observation. Also, it develops specialized autonomous unmanned and collaborative systems (aerial, terrestrial, surface marine and underwater) with emphasis on operational resilience in demanding environments.

Moreover, it provides specialized services in areas including mapping, maritime applications, civil protection, raw material exploitation, environmental protection, culture, healthcare and more.

This success confirms the role of the Technical University of Crete as an international hob of excellence in innovation and knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship. It highlights the ability of university spin-offs to transform academic research into sustainable technological products with substantial social impact and a strong economic footprint in the global market.
