Emeritus Professor Markos Papageorgiou, of the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete, was honored with the ITS Hellas Contribution to Intelligent Transport Systems Award (ITS Hellas Awards 2026) in recognition of his longstanding and outstanding contribution to the development, promotion, and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
The award was presented during a special session of the 11th ITS Hellas Annual Conference, held in Athens on 23–24 June 2026, under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Digital Governance, the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation, the Municipality of Athens, and the Hellenic Cold Chain and Logistics Association.
The conference was organized by ITS Hellas in collaboration with the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens.
The ITS Hellas Awards 2026, presented for the first time as part of the conference, marked the launch of a new institution aimed at recognizing individuals, organizations, and companies that make a significant contribution to the development and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems in Greece.
