The 14th Chania Film Festival, held from October 21 to November 1, 2026, was successfully completed, with the voluntary yet valuable contribution of students from the Technical University of Crete.
Under the guidance of Ms. Zhu Shiheng, Chinese language instructor, students attending Chinese language courses volunteered at the Festival, providing interpretation services between Chinese, Greek, and English. Throughout the event, they also supported various activities, workshops, and cultural visits involving distinguished artists, including Yu Jin, Dr. Wen-Shing Ho, and Joe Chang, who were hosted in Chania as part of the Festival. Their participation proved to be a particularly valuable experience, giving them the opportunity to put their language skills into practice in real-life communication settings, while further developing their teamwork, communication, and intercultural skills.
The SURREAL research group of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Technical University of Crete also took part in the Festival, contributing its expertise to the presentation and viewing of Virtual Reality (VR) Movies, short films screened using specialized virtual reality headsets. Maria Kouki, an undergraduate student at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was responsible for providing voluntary support during the VR film presentations. Throughout the Festival, she offered valuable technical assistance, helping ensure the smooth operation of this particularly important and innovative section of the event.
Finally, the student group Radio Entasi also maintained an active presence, with its members contributing to the Festival's activities.
The participation of Technical University of Crete students in various aspects of the 14th Chania Film Festival highlighted the importance of connecting the academic community with local society and the region's cultural activities, reaffirming once again the value of volunteerism.
