The Technical University of Crete participated as a co-organizer of the international scientific conference “5th International Symposium on Applied Geoinformatics - ISAG2026” through Associate Professor Georgios Arampatzis, alongside Yildiz Technical University and Wrocław University of Science and Technology. This year's symposium was hosted by VSB - Technical University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic from 13–15 May 2026, continuing the successful series of international conferences in the field of Applied Geoinformatics.
ISAG2026 brought together scientists, engineers, researchers, and professionals from academia and industry with the aim of exchanging knowledge, research findings, and experiences related to the latest developments in Geoinformatics. The symposium focused on emerging technologies for the acquisition, processing, analysis, and management of geospatial data, which are playing an increasingly important role in addressing complex challenges such as climate change, environmental monitoring, biodiversity conservation, smart cities, natural resource management, and urban development.
The conference covered a wide range of thematic areas, including Artificial Intelligence and geospatial data, satellite remote sensing, photogrammetry, image processing, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), elevation data systems, terrestrial laser scanning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and smart cities.
ISAG has already established a significant international presence through previous editions held in Istanbul, Latvia, Chania, and Wrocław, Poland, contributing to the development of an active international network for scientific exchange and collaboration.
The participation of the Technical University of Crete as a co-organizer of the symposium confirms the institution’s continuous and active presence within the international scientific community, as well as its strong commitment to promoting research, innovation, and international cooperation in cutting-edge fields with substantial social, environmental, and technological impact.
