Technical University of Crete Participates in new European COST Action on the Digital Transformation of the Built Environment

The Technical University of Crete is participating in a new European COST Action (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) focused on the digital transformation of the built environment through research and innovation networks.

Representing Greece on the Action’s Management Committee are Professor Georgios Stavroulakis of the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete and Professor Emeritus Charalambos Baniotopoulos of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The aim of the Action is to establish an inclusive pan-European collaborative network to address the digital divide across the architecture, engineering, construction and operation of buildings and infrastructure sectors. The fragmented adoption of technologies, lack of shared knowledge and uneven uptake of digital solutions continue to pose significant challenges in these fields.

More specifically, the Action’s main objectives are to systematically map digital applications, collect and evaluate implementation case studies, and develop strategies to promote the wider adoption of digital technologies.

To achieve these objectives, the Action is organised into three working groups focusing on categorising the development of digital technologies, gathering evidence-based data on their implementation by relevant stakeholders, and developing strategies to ensure their balanced and widespread uptake.

The Action seeks to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among academia, industry, policymakers and civil society. Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring equal participation by diverse groups, including women and early-career researchers and scientists developing innovative ideas.

The Technical University of Crete’s participation in this initiative strengthens its links with European scientific cooperation networks and contributes to the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge on digital technologies and the transformation of the built environment.
