For the second consecutive year, the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Technical University of Crete hosted, on its premises from May 19 to 20, 2026, the oral examinations for the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC II), organized by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM).
These examinations are conducted online and simultaneously across nine (9) examination centers throughout Europe. One of these centers was located, for the second time in the 35-year history of the Diploma, in Greece, specifically in Chania (Chania Exam Center).
Thirty (30) examiners from all over Europe (United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy) and eight (8) examiners from Greece were present at the Technical University of Crete. The examinees were from Europe, the Middle East, India, Australia, the USA, and Canada. This is a high-level Diploma, validated by UEMS/CESMA.
TThe Director of the examination center was Ms. Alexandra Pentheroudaki, Director of the ICU National Health System of the General Hospital of Chania, EDIC Subcommittee invited expert of ESICM, National Representative for Greece. The exam was co-organized by Professor Georgios Karystinos, Dean of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Technical University of Crete.
The examinations were conducted in full synchronization with the other examination centers across Europe, with excellent results and in the presence of the Chair Elect of the EDIC Subcommittee, Rene Schmidt.
The examiners, the Director of the center Ms. Pentheroudaki, and the Chair Elect of the EDIC Subcommittee Rene Schmidt, expressed their satisfaction for the excellent organization and technical support from the Technical University, as well as for the enthusiasm of the staff of the Digital Governance Unit of the Technical University of Crete who contributed (I.
