Science and Technology Fair “Thelma Mavridou” at the Technical University of Crete | Saturday, 28.11.2026

Technical University of Crete is delighted to once again welcome primary school students to its campus and host the  Science and Technology Fair “Thelma Mavridou” on Saturday, 28 November 2026, from 14:00 to 20:00, at the Science Building on the University Campus.

The University’s largest public outreach event, Science and Technology Day offers an engaging, hands-on educational experience that brings together four key disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Its aim is to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills and innovation. Through a range of interactive activities, children are encouraged to explore and discover new knowledge, while developing their curiosity, enthusiasm for research and scientific thinking from an early age.

Now in its ninth year, the “Thelma Mavridou” Science and Technology Day returns with a refreshed programme and exciting new activities for our young scientists. Young visitors of all ages, accompanied by their parents, will have the opportunity to explore the latest advances in research and technology through demonstrations featuring research prototypes, models and equipment developed and used at the Technical University of Crete. They will also be able to meet and interact with researchers and university students, discover how scientific breakthroughs and technological innovations shape our everyday lives, explore new possibilities and gain inspiration for their future.

This year’s event is organised within the framework of the European project “SCIENCE FOR GROWTH – EMPOWERING MINDS (STEPS)”, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Laboratories from all Schools of the Technical University of Crete will take part, supported by a large team of student volunteers who will contribute to the successful organisation and smooth running of the event.

As in previous years, the event will also host the “Junior Scientists 2026” exhibition, featuring collaborative science and technology projects created by primary school pupils from across the regional unit of Chania.

For safety reasons, all children attending the event must be accompanied by an adult. Attendance is free of charge.

This event is dedicated to the memory of our beloved Thelma Mavridou, who was truly the heart and soul of Science and Technology Day. She was the driving force behind its organisation, bringing joy, enthusiasm and energy to the event, while coming up with new ideas every year to make it even more engaging and inspiring.

We warmly invite you to join us once again for the “Thelma Mavridou” Science and Technology Day
