Anne McKay

Anne McKay received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy and her Master of Arts degree in English from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She has been teaching English as a Foreign Language in Greece for thirty years, twenty of which have been at the Technical University of Crete. Her interests and professional activities are in the area of autonomy and language learning, particularly in the field of materials design and Information Technology in language learning.

Anna Vrouvaki

Anna Vrouvaki was born in Germany (Aachen). She lived there (Aachen – Bonn) until she was fourteen years old. She received her Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Literature from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. She graduated with a first class standing. During her studies, she was awarded a scholarship from the Institute of State Scholarships (I.K.Y.) for three years. She also studied German Language and Literature at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn on scholarship from DAAD. She obtained her Master of Arts from the Hellenic Open University. From 1992 to 2001 she worked as a German teacher at the Goethe-Institut in Chania. During her cooperation with the Goethe-Institut she acted as an examiner for all German certificates. She continues as an examiner for the Goethe Institut in Athens. She has taught German as a Foreign Language from 1994 – 2004 at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete / Branch of Chania (T.E.I.). There she was also in charge of the Leonardo Da Vinci programme for many years. Since November 2001, she has been teaching German at the Technical University of Crete. Her professional interests include Autonomous Learning, teaching technical language and terminology, Blended Learning, developing teaching material.

Paola Nicotera

Paola Nicotera was born in Rome (Italy) and has been living in Crete since 1985. She joined the Director of  Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania as the Executive Secretary. Since 1994 she has been employed at the Technical University of Crete during which time she held the position of Chair of the Deputy-Rectors’ Office for a period of twenty years and is presently a member of the staff of the Language Centre. She graduated in Law from the University of Macerata (Italy) and holds the Post-graduate Diploma in Translation of Scientific and Technical Texts from  the Institute of Linguists (London, England), the DALF (Advanced Diploma in French Language), and the Oberstufe Diplom from the Goethe Institute. She is also very active as a freelance translator. Her interests include humanitarian aid work, nature and art. She is a non-professional painter (her works can be found in art collections in Greece and abroad), and teaches Ikebana from the Sogetsu School (Japan).
