The Library and Information Center (L.I.Ce.) of the TUC provides the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Service in order to provide its users with more resources as well as to save funds. The service meets the users’ need for access to nescessary research or teaching material, not included in the Library's collections, but located in other libraries, which belongs to collaboration schemes, in which the L.I.Ce. participates. This means that users may borrow material from other libraries via the TUC Library. The L.I.Ce. of the TUC has joined the national and international collaborative networks of Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services.
Regarding articles or books located in Greek libraries, there is no restriction on the number orders permitted.
In case the ordered material should be forwarded to a library abroad, the total number of orders is limited. Teaching staff and doctoral thesis researchers may order up to 10 documents annually and postgraduate students up to 5 documents annually. There is no charge for ILL requests for the user. TUC bears the charge.
Before submitting a request for interlibrary loan, applicants should confirm that the needed material does not already exists in the L.I.Ce.'s collection, either in printed or electronic format. Then, applicants should fill in the appropriate ILL request form. Library Staff has the responsibility to conclude the process and notify the applicant as soon as the material arrives.
It depends on the library which serves us. The average time needed, is two weeks.
If the ordered material is a journal article, applicants receive a photocopy which they can keep. Postgraduate students receive the photocopy via their supervisor.
If the ordered material is a book, the applicants are notified by e-mail or phone call to receive the book from the Circulation Desk. They are obliged to return it within a determined period, which is defined by the library which serves us. It is essential to be precise regarding time limits, in order to keep our public relations with other libraries at a good level and maintain collaboration.
