Dr. Nafsika Andriopoulou receives the Women to the Stage grant at IMPR 2021

Dr. Nafsika Andriopoulou, a recent Ph.D. alumnus of the School of Mineral Resources Engineering at the Technical University of Crete, received the Women to the Stage grant during the 12th International Meeting for Phytolith Research, which took place from 6 to 11 September 2021 in Kiel, Germany, within the 27th annual meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists. Dr. Andriopoulou presented (virtually) a contribution on Phytolith classification using deep learning: implementation of a U-Net neural network for morphotype image-segmentation. This research was performed at the School of Mineral Resources Engineering of the Technical University of Crete by Nafsika C. Andriopoulou, Georgios Petrakis, and Associate Professor Panagiotis Partsinevelos.

"Women to the Stage (Frauen aufs Podium)" is an initiative of the Central Office for Gender Equality, Diversity and Family of the Faculty of Arts and Humanity of Kiel University. With this initiative the office for gender equality provides a budget to enhance the visibility of female researchers and their participation to scientific events and conference programs.
