Prof. Elia Psillakis among the Task Group Chairs of new IUPAC Project

Prof. Elia Psillakis of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of the Technical University of Crete is one of the three task group chairs of a new program entitled "Greenness of Official Standard Sample Preparation Methods" approved by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). IUPAC, founded in 1919 with the goal of advancing chemistry, is the international federation of national scientific organizations representing chemists in their respective countries.

The program aims to evaluate and adopt new green analytical techniques by the official global analytical standardization bodies, such as ISO and CEN, and further suggest sustainable alternative methods. The application of environmentally benign analytical methods is the most appropriate way for pollution abatement. The impact of the project is expected to be large as the greening of analytical methods is one of the social responsibilities of the analysts and the aims of the project are in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
