The high quality research work produced at the Technical University of Crete (TUC), as well as the international reputation TUC has acquired, have been confirmed once again this year, according to the recent ranking of the bibliometric study by Baas, Boyak, and Ioannidis (2021) of Stanford University published on October 19, 2021 by Elsevier. This ranking, entitled "Data for updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators", is announced annually and evaluates the performance of all academics worldwide. Twenty-nine (29) members of the academic staff of the Technical University of Crete (among them 20% of the current faculty members) appear in the ranking lists.

The updated 2021 ranking of the world's top scientists is based on a number of indicators, focusing on the impact of their published work, based on year 2020 or on their overall work, and concerns the evaluation of these indicators for over 8,000,000 scientists worldwide. The broader annual evaluation of the Stanford University team is based on the impact of the published research work and in particular on the citations received by each scientist with at least 5 publications according to the Scopus database.
