The "Matthew Karlaftis" Young Researcher Award of the 10th International Congress on Transportation Research (ICTR) was awarded to Panagiotis Typaldos, doctoral candidate with the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete and member of the Dynamic Systems and Simulation Laboratory (DSSL) for his research article:

  • Typaldos, P., Volakakis, V., Papageorgiou, M., Papamichail, I.: A Discrete Differential Dynamic Programming Approach for GLOSA Systems with Stochastic Signal Switching Times, 10th International Congress on Transportation Research (ICTR), Rhodes, Greece, 2-3 September 2021.

which was evaluated as one of the two best PhD student papers at the ICTR 2021 conference. The award was presented on September 3, 2021 during the Conference Closing session. Due to the hybrid nature of the conference, the awarding of the prize to the young researcher Panagiotis Typaldos was conducted online.

Panagiotis Typaldos completed his undergraduate studies in Applied Mathematics at the University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece in 2014 and then he received a Master's degree in Operational Research from the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete, Chania, Greece, in 2017. From October 2015 on, he is a research associate and, since September 2017, he has been a doctoral candidate with the Dynamic Systems and Simulation Laboratory of the Technical University of Crete.

The "Matthew Karlaftis" Young Researcher Award is given to young scientists during the ICTR conference in honor of Matthew Karlaftis, who was a Professor at the National Technical University of Athens with distinguished scientific work, but passed away early, at the age of 45.
