AI developed at the TUC ECE School prevails in international power trading competition

The TUC-TAC intelligent software agent has been declared the winner of this year's International PowerTAC trading agents tounament. PowerTAC is held annually and pits intelligent autonomous software agents corresponding to energy brokers against each other in simulated complex retail electricity markets.

The TUC-TAC team, located at the InteLLigence Lab of the School of  Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Technical University of Crete, develops intelligent software agents and participates in trading agent competitions since 2012.

Team members this year include: Stavros Orfanoudakis (undergraduate student), Stefanos Kontos (undergraduate student), Charilaos Akasiadis (postdoctoral researcher), and Georgios Chalkiadakis (Associate Professor). The key algorithmic aspects of the TUC TAC agent that prevailed in the competition this year, were mainly developed by Stavros Orfanoudakis in the context of his engineering Diploma Thesis.

TUC TAC employs Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques in order to subscribe a large number of customers (electricity consumers) at its services, while ensuring that it keeps its costs low.

TUC-TAC’s strategy will be presented at the "Policy, Awareness, Sustainability and Systems" (PASS-2020) workshop, which will be take place on Dec 2-3, 2020, virtually online.
