Περίληψη της Ομιλίας

Gaborone city is the capital of Botswana and it hosts the Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Therefore, Gaborone should be an example for other cities in Botswana and southern Africa. It is important that the city aspires to be ‘green’ in terms of management of its natural resources, including prudent waste collection, disposal and re-use and recycling. This presentation gives an overview of the current waste management situation in and around Gaborone. It looks at challenges and opportunities for recycling and environmental protection.

Βιογραφικό του Ομιλητή

Dr Phillimon Tlamelo Odirile is a qualified Civil and environmental engineer with a MSc in Water and Wastewater Engineering and a PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering. He Senior lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, University of Botswana where he is teaching Environmental Engineering courses to Undergraduate and Graduate Students. He has also supervised various MSc projects on Solid Waste, wastewater Management and water quality monitoring and modelling. He also supervises 2 PhD students. He served and continues serve the government in many capacities as Technology Advisor to the Department of Waste Management and Pollution Control, Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Local Governments as the chairperson of the Technology Advisory Group (TAG).
