Σειρά διαλέξεων 'Time Series Prediction', στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος Erasmus+ | 6-10 Μαΐου | Πολυτεχνειούπολη

Στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος Εrasmus+ θα δοθεί σειρά διαλέξεων με τίτλο "Time Series Prediction" από τον Καθηγητή Jiri Holcik (Masaryk University, Czech Republic).

TIME SERIES PREDICTION Short Course
Οffered within the framework of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Teaching
Prof. Jiri Holcik, Masaryk University, Czech Republic
06.05.2019 - 10.05.2019
Αίθουσα B1.003 και ώρες 10:00 -13:00

The Course:

Time series prediction is one of the fundamental tasks often used in many application domains as economics, ecology, epidemiology, demography, medicine, technical sciences,… . The offered course will deal with the most important and the most frequently used methods for predicting future shape of time series waveforms. At the beginning, some examples of problems linked to (not only time series) forecasting will be introduced (problem of inductive knowledge, unexpected events, capability of system to adapt itself to unfavourable predictions, misinterpretation of the prediction, etc). After that, great emphasis will be laid mainly on forecasting based on regressive approximations of the time series, linear models representing time series (autoregressive models, moving average models), exponential smoothing models (linear as well as non-linear) and judgemental forecasts. Mathematical background of all the methods will be explained as well as results of practical application of the forecasting method will be given and described. The course will freely continue the last year short course on “Time Series Processing”, but it can be supposed as a stand-alone. That is why sometimes it will be necessary to shortly repeat some facts from the previous course. The course can be determined not only for students who are interested in time series (digital signal) processing but also for students of other study programmes at the TUC who need to deal with some forecasting problems.

The Lecturer:
Prof. Jiri Holcik graduated in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology, the Czech Republic. His lifelong research interests are in digital signal/time series processing (especially in analysis of ECG and other signals of a cardiovascular system), methods of pattern recognition and cardiovascular system modelling. As for his teaching activity, he currently gives lectures in courses “Time Series (An Introduction)”, “Spectral Analysis of Time Series”, and “Introduction to Mathematical Biology”. For years he also served as National Secretary of the “Czech Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics” and he was a member of the “Czech Society of Cybernetics and Informatics” and the IEEE-EMBS, as well.
